Kiddie Fair Fun!

Last weekend we spent a day in New Westminster, BC at the Royal City Kids Fair. The event was hosted at the Fraser River Discovery Centre which is an education centre featuring programs about our fave fish – the Great White Sturgeon! Here’s a peek at the fun…

Happy 2012!

When we came to the realization that we only published 7 blog posts in 2011 (only seven!?!), we knew something had to change.

After years of struggling to find time to write on our blog, we have finally attempted a video post! We hope to do regular updates via video and as our editing skills improve, we look forward to sharing vids and pics from the road. We’d also love to find a way to share some of the amazing artwork and videos that you send us. If you have any other ideas for our blog, please send them along…we’d love to hear from you!

Holly-oliday Cheer!

Well, another year has flown by, and once again we pause to reflect on how amazing and rewarding our lives truly are. We have dream ‘jobs’, and 2011 is another great example of what incredibly fun lives we live!

Highlights from the past year include the hundreds of live shows we shared in all over Canada, alongside the opportunity to introduce songs from our May 2011 release – Connecting the Dots – to families across the country! We also celebrated a SOCAN Music Award, Parents’ Choice Award and a Western Canadian Music Award nomination. Plus, the icing on the cake was definitely the addition of the youngest and sweetest member of the Bobs & LoLo family – 6 month old, Baby Anisa.

It has been an unforgettable year, and we are so excited to see what lies ahead in 2012!

We wanted to wrap-up this year with an extra special project, and last month we wrote a song in celebration of the season. This is our first holiday tune, and we hope to add to the collection over the next year [wishing for a xmas album in 2012!]. We hope you enjoy this little musical treat from the B&L family to yours!

Little Seed: What Will You Be?

We apologize for the delay on posting news about LoLo’s beautiful baby girl. We actually got back onstage 13 days after the little one arrived (crazy!), and once again, it has been a whirlwind summer of musical adventures…only made better by the addition of Anisa!

LoLo and her hubby welcomed Anisa into the world on June 18th at 11:24am. Anisa arrived in perfect health weighing 7lbs 3oz, and the new family of three was settling into home by 7pm the same day!

Our appreciation to everyone who passed on their well wishes to the new momma, and a special thanks to all who entered a guess in the baby pool. There was a tie for the winning guess, and rather than do a random draw for a winner, both entrants will be receiving a Bobs & LoLo SUPER BUNDLE!

Congratulations to Jessica (Facebook) for her guess of a baby girl born on June 18th at 10:35pm weighing 7lbs 4oz, and Sydelle (Blog) for her guess of a baby girl born on June 18th at 4:33pm weighing 7lbs 1oz!

Anisa has shared in nearly 30 performances in her short 10 weeks, and while she’s slept through most of them, she’s proven to a mini-superstar time and time again.

Baby Pool for the Little Seed

Life is finally winding down for us after a CRAZY few months, but the break is sure to be short-lived with ‘Baby LoLo’ expected to make his/her big debut in just over two weeks! We, along with all sides of the B&L family, are so excited to meet the little bopping bean who has accompanied us on the road, in the studio and onstage for the last 8.5 months!

After the guest post went live last week, many friends, family and fans suggested we set-up a baby pool contest. Our first thought? Sounds like fun!! Here are the details…

LoLo’s Baby Pool:

The winner will receive a prize package including an autographed copy of our Connecting the Dots album, a NEW B&L t-shirt (available in sizes 12-18 months, 2T, 4T & 6T) and an autographed photo! In the event of a tie, we will randomly draw from the tied entries to determine the winner.

We will be using the following points system to rank guesses:

A. Correct gender = 1 point
B. Correct date of birth = 2 points
C. Time of birth (does not need to be paired with correct date):
• within an hour = 2 points
• within two hours = 1 point
D. weight:
• exact = 3 points
• off by 1-4 oz = 2 points
• off by 5-8 oz = 1 point

Connecting the Dots

Happy Earth Day! We are excited to be celebrating with a beautiful, sunny day at home in Vancouver, BC. While we do believe that every day should be ‘earth day’, having the official date fall on Good Friday this year makes it even easier to plan some special activities with the family. Maybe you’re involved in a neighbourhood clean-up, a community tree-planting event or are simply enjoying some time in the great outdoors? Please leave a comment sharing how your are spending Earth Day with your family – we’d love to hear from you!

We are thrilled to have a new soundtrack for our Earth Day celebrations this year. Connecting the Dots – our new album – arrived yesterday! We are so happy with the final product, and as with our first three albums, we have packaged the CD in an eco-friendly fashion including recycled paper materials, a cornstarch disc tray and vegetable-based inks.

Connecting the Dots features 14 original songs aimed at inspiring kids to observe, explore and CONNECT with the world around them. The stories and ideas shared in each song show that connections exist between different things – from how sharing a smile is an easy way to brighten someone’s day, to what makes a tree a perfect home for a silly squirrel, to simply recognizing that we each have our own special ‘beat’ that makes us all unique.

In celebration of Earth Day we wanted to share a few ‘sneak preview’ songs from the album. Below is the title track – Connecting the Dots. You can also find 4 more songs featured on the music player at www.bobsandlolo.com/music. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

Pre-orders for the new album are now available on our website and through the new Store on our Facebook page. The CDs will be released into retail stores on May 17, and pre-orders will be shipped just prior. We are extra excited to announce that we have created some new B&L t-shirts…yay! It has been a couple years since our last batch! These are only available online in special bundle packages with the new album along with an autographed photo for your little superfan!

We are hosting a few CD Release Family Concerts in the upcoming weeks although these are all taking place somewhat close to home given the anticipated June arrival of Baby LoLo. Special advance copies of the new album will be available for purchase at the live events!

Singing in the Spring!

It has been non-stop singing around here as we have been busy both on and offstage these past few weeks. We’re now in the final stages of production on our new album (yay!), and we have had a great time in the studio to date. From this point forward, we turn things over to the creative genius of Mario Vaira at Five Fathom Studios and our post-production teams at Suite Sound Labs and Precision Disc.

The project has been so much fun with tons of collaboration from local musicians as well as an amazing group of kindergarten students at Talmud Torah Elementary in Vancouver. Special thanks to Ms. Loomer for allowing us to take over the classroom last week!

We can’t wait to share Connecting the Dots with everyone! For those of you on the west coast, please note the following dates for our live CD Release Parties: May 1 (Victoria), May 8 (Nanaimo) and May 15 (Vancouver). More info coming soon!

We Are Family!

Today is officially Family Day in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, and it is also a provincial holiday in Manitoba and PEI, but we’re unofficially celebrating in BC too! Plus…isn’t every day perfect for some family fun?

To celebrate Family Day, we wanted to share something special with you – our B&L family! As many of you know, we’re currently in the studio working on our new album. Connecting the Dots will be released in April and features 14 NEW songs. One of the songs we’ve been recording this past week seems perfect for today’s celebrations, and we couldn’t resist the opportunity to send out a sneak preview.

Connecting the Dots will be our fourth full-length album, and we are super excited to be able to share the rest of the songs with all of you soon! Stay tuned for future dancing and singing fun that will take you on musical adventures up into outer space, outdoors looking for rainbows, on treks through swamps and even into your own bodies to explore some of the inner workings of digestion. Yup – we wrote a ‘poo’ song!

Great Expectations

2011 is FULL of great expectations!

While this post isn’t really paying homage to Charles Dickens, we do have high hopes and great expectations for the year! Do you have family goals or dreams for 2011?

2010 definitely didn’t leave us much to be desired. We shared in many adventures both onstage and at home. Check out our last post – Celebrate Good Times – for more! And in the spirit of looking ahead, here are our ‘Top 3’ GREAT expectations for 2011:

Tour time!
Our events calendar looks a little sparse right now, but we’re in the process of finalizing a number of 2011 live performance dates around Canada. Dates are filling up from now through September, but we still have a long list of communities that we would LOVE to visit – including yours! We manage our own bookings, and often the most challenging part is connecting with venues or family concert presenters in new communities. If you want to see us in your town, please feel free to share our website with your local arts’ presenters or send us a note with your local venue/festival suggestions to booking@bobsandlolo.com.

New songs!
We will be releasing a new album in early spring featuring a whole new set of original tunes! Woot! After spending the last few months conceptualizing the album theme and writing, writing, writing, we’ll be heading into the studio at the end of January. A few new songs will also be slipped into upcoming shows, and we’ll be showcasing a sneak peek of the album art on Facebook in early March!

Last but certainly not least in our ‘Top 3’ list of 2011 fun, is the fact that the Bobs & LoLo family is go, go, growing! LoLo and her hubby are expecting their first baby in June! Yay!! We have both talked about starting families for a number of years now and are thrilled about this next phase in our lives…not to mention the new little source of inspiration for our music! Much to the excitement of mommy-to-be, LoLo and auntie-to-be, Bobs, the baby has already been dancing up a storm at shows, rehearsals and song-writing sessions!

Celebrate Good Times! Come on!

As the end of 2010 draws closer, we’ve been looking back on how incredibly amazing the last year has been. With more than 300 live performances from coast-to-coast, a Juno Award nomination, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in our own backyard, heaps of new friends and some beyond amazing wedding fun (yay Bobs & Mario!), it’s truly been a memorable year!

We are already starting to gear ourselves up for a busy 2011 too! We plan to release our new album in the Spring, and we’ve got lots of other projects on the go…more on that coming soon! :-)

In the meantime, we’re wrapping up this year with plenty of family fun closer to home. We’ll be heading to Vancouver Island on Saturday for a family concert in our childhood town of Nanaimo, BC. We’ll actually be taking to the stage at our high-school alma mater, Dover Bay Secondary! Check out our holiday post from last year for more info on when we actually met and how our musical adventures first began: Home for the Holidays.

This year’s ‘home for the holidays’ show is on December 11th at 2pm (doors at 1:30pm). Tickets are still available at Kool & Child or by calling 250-758-9727. Children under one year are FREE!

Bobs & LoLo at Dover Bay Secondary School

Other upcoming fun includes an action-packed Holiday Celebration at the Vancouver Playhouse on Sunday, December 12. We’ll be sharing the stage with Fred Penner, Charlotte Diamond AND Norman Foote! Woot! Proceeds are benefitting the Vancouver International Children’s Festival.

We’ll also be heading into the Fraser Valley on Saturday, December 18 for a special family concert at the new Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Join us to celebrate the holiday season with some fun-filled musical adventures!
